abstract ={Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the role of parenting styles in predicting behavioral and emotional problems in adolescents. Methods: This study is a descriptive, cross sectional, and correlation research. All students enrolled in the first grade in boys’ guidance school of District 3 in Tehran city and their parents constituted the population. One hundred and eighty participants comprising 60 adolescents (boys) and their parents participated in the study. Convenience sampling method was used for recruiting these participants. Parents completed Baumrind’s Parenting Styles Questionnaire (PSQ Baumrind, 1972) and students responded to the Seattle Personality Questionnaire for Children (SPQC Greenberg & Kusche, 1990). A stepwise regression analysis was utilized to address the prediction power of Behavioral and emotional problems Results: The results indicated that authoritarian style in fathers is associated with depression, as well as behavioral and emotional problems (total score). However, the authoritarian style in mothers is related to anxiety, depression, as well as behavioral and emotional problems (total score). Moreover, permissiveness in mothers is associated with conduct problems. Conclusion: The results are consistent with the results of previous studies stressing the role of parents in predicting children’s behavioral-emotional problems.},

abstract ={Objective: This research aimed to study the relationship between scrupulosity and obsessivecompulsive symptoms as well as obsessive-compulsive-related cognitive styles (obsessive beliefs and thought-action fusion). Methods: This was a correlational study. The study population included all individuals who referred to counseling centers of Tehran from August to December 2010 and diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and also all Persian speakers with OCD who were active in internet from August to November 2012. A total of 30 individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (mostly Iranian Muslims) were recruited from different psychological counseling centers in Tehran. In addition, 50 individuals with OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) were recruited via internet social networks. For screening, we used Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R). Convenience method was used for the sampling. In order to collect data, Penn Inventory of Scrupulosity (PIOS), Thought-Action Fusion Scale (TAF), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21), Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R), and Obsessive Beliefs Questionnaire (OBQ) were administered. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. SPSS version 18 was used for data analysis. Results: Results showed that there were significant relationships between scrupulosity and obsessive-compulsive symptoms total score (r=0.275, P<0.05) also scrupulosity and obsessive beliefs (r=0.558, P<0.01) and scrupulosity and thought-action fusion (r=0.506, P<0.01). Results also revealed that the variations in scrupulosity scores could be best predicted by ‘anxiety’ and ‘Importance and Control of Thoughts.’ Scrupulosity is a subtype of OCD and is obsessive in nature. Conclusion: As explained by cognitive-behavioral theories of religious OCD, scrupulosity is closely related to the ‘Importance of Thoughts and Controlling Thoughts,’ as well as moral and probability ‘Thought-action Fusion.’ The results were in accordance with the findings of comparable studies on Christian samples. title = {Overt and Covert Narcissism in Iranian Students: The Role of Self-esteem and Shame},
abstract ={Objective: For decades, both theory and research have focused on the role of self-esteem and shame in constructing narcissistic traits. However, studies on the exact relationship between these two and overt and covert facets of narcissism have been equivocal. Methods: The current study is correlational. It examined these relationships among 308 Iranian college students (155 males, 153 females, mean age=23.49 years, SD=2.83). The target population was all students of national universities of Tehran, Iran. The sampling method was non-random multi-step clustering. Participants were asked to fill four self-report measures: Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPD), Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES), Test of Selfconscious Affect (TOSCA-3), and Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale (HSNS). The data were analyzed by SPSS 19.0.0 software, using Pearson’s Correlation, T-test and Multiple Regression Analysis methods. Results: Surprisingly, there was no significant difference between men and women with respect to NPI scores. Findings also revealed that shame was negatively related to overt narcissism (r=-0.22, P<0.05) and positively related to covert narcissism (r=0.23, P<0.05). Self-esteem was found to be positively correlated with overt narcissism (r=0.42, P<0.01) and negatively correlated with covert narcissism (r=-0.30, P<0.01). Conclusion: The results provide support for the models of overt narcissism in which the narcissistic self serves as a buffer against inner feelings of inferiority. It also supports the importance of shame and low self-esteem in shaping the covert narcissistic traits. However, shame could not differentiate between overt and covert narcissism. The empirical, cultural, and clinical implications of the findings are discussed.},

abstract ={Objective: This study aimed to assess deficits of cognitive and emotional aspects of theory of mind in patients with bipolar disorder type 1 within a remission period. Methods: In this case- control study, 30 bipolar patients and 30 normal individuals were selected through Purposive sampling method for the purpose of the study. Then, they were matched based on their educational background and age. Finally, all participants were asked to complete the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10), eyes test, Theory of Mind Picture Stories Tasks. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test. Results: Results show that there is a significant difference between two groups regarding their scores of cognitive theory of mind (t=4.85, P<0.01). and emotional theory of mind(t=4.54, P<0.01). and their reaction time for cognitive test(t=10.34, P<0.01) and emotional test(t=4.61, P<0.01). Conclusion: The results show that bipolar patients type I with remission period have deficit regarding cognitive and emotional theory of mind. And because of this, they are weak in understanding others ’cognitive mind states like opinions and ambitions, and others’ emotional mind states like feelings and emotions. In fact, it can be concluded that the deficit in Theory of cognitive and emotional mind in bipolar patients with remission period can be the result of the malfunction of brain regions and cognitive infrastructures like executive performances.},

abstract ={Objective: Obesity is a major health problem. Nowadays approximately one-third of the world population suffer from obesity which is frequently accompanied with serious medical and emotional problems. Three main evidence-based options exist for the treatment of obese individuals: lifestyle modification, pharmacotherapy, and bariatric surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral treatment in treating of patients with obesity. Methods: Three women with body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or more were selected by purposive sampling method to take a part in an A-B single subject design with follow up. Patients responded to the multidimensional body-self relations questionnaire-appearance scales (MBSRQ-AS), Binge eating scale (BES) and Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES) at 3 stages of baseline (pre-treatment), treatment (2nd, 4th , 6th , 8th, 10th, and 12th sessions), and follow up. In addition, weighing of patients was carried out at beginning of each session. Data were analyzed by graphs and improvement rates. Results: Results showed that therapy was effective in weight loss, reduction of binge eating, and maintaining of weight loss. It also increased body image satisfaction but failed in selfesteem improvement. Conclusion: The cognitive-behavioral treatment was effective in treating of obese patients. This treatment outcome data are consistent with cognitive-behavioral treatment of obesity proposed by other scientists.},

title = {Defining the Relationship of Psychological Well-Being and Diabetes Distress with Glycemic Control among Malaysian Type 2 Diabetes},
abstract ={Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic and progressive disease that has reached the epidemic level around the world. In Malaysia, according to the third National Health and Morbidity Survey (2006), the prevalence of diabetes has increased to 14.9% from 8.3% in 1996. Co-morbid psychological factors such as depression, anxiety, and stress have been shown to be high among type 2 diabetic patients in Malaysia and they were also associated with the level of glycemia. The present study sought to examine the relationships of diabetes distress and psychological well-being to glycemic control among adults with type 2 diabetes. Methods: A total of 60 adults with type 2 diabetes participated in the study and were given the diabetes distress scale (DDS-17) and well-being questionnaire (W-BQ 22) to measure their level of distress and psychological well-being using Pearson correlation test. The most recent data on glycemic control (or blood glucose level, HbA1c) were obtained from the participants’ medical records, (with poor glycemic control defined by HbA1c>7.5%). Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 19) used to analyze the data obtained from questionnaires. Results: Pearson correlation results indicated significant positive relationship between blood glucose level and variables of diabetes distress (r=0.27, P=0.03) and psychological well-being (r=0.53, P=0.00). There were no significant relationships between blood glucose level and diabetes distress dimensions (emotional burden, physician-related distress, regimen-related distress, and internal distress). However, there were significant relationships between blood glucose level and variables of depression (r=-0.27, P=0.03) and anxiety (r=-0.41, P=0.00), both of which are dimensions of psychological well-being. Conclusion: The study results have shown that diabetes distress and psychological wellbeing are associated with glycemic control and while it is not always possible to avoid stress, learning to recognize and cope with stressors may help individuals with diabetes maintain good glycemic control and improve general well-being. These results are consistent with the results of past studies in Malaysia.abuse.},

abstract ={Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the selective attention hypothesis in a group of Iranian outpatients with depressive disorder. Methods: Causal-comparative and correlation methods were used to analyze the data. A total of 60 subjects participated in this study. Of them, 31 patients diagnosed with depression were assigned in the depressive group and 29 nondepressed individuals were observed as control (normal) group. Participation in this study was completely voluntary. Participants were screened by the structured clinical interview for the DSM-IV (SCID), answered to Beck depression inventory–II (BDI-II), and took part in the Visual Dot-Probe (VDP) task. The data were analyzed by correlation analysis and t test. Results: The results showed that the depressed group got higher score in BDI compared to the control group and this difference was statistically significant. But the differences between two groups regarding attention biases were not large enough to be significant. Conclusion: The following results could be because of the different reasons such as culture. Furthermore, there were several limitations to the current study which are discussed.},

abstract ={Objective: Recent studies on treating obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) have investigated noninvasive brain stimulation techniques such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to improve patients’ impaired emotion and cognition. However, such experiments have yielded mixed results, especially with respect to cognition. This study aimed to investigate whether anodal and cathodal tDCS applied over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) would improve decision making and reduce obsession symptoms in patients with OCD. Methods: the current study is analysis of variance. In this regard, 20 patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (n=20) were randomly assigned to receive either experimental (active) or control (sham) tDCS. To measure cognitive functions, the participants underwent a series of decision making neuropsychological tasks to measure obsession symptoms, the Yale-brown obsessive compulsive and Beck anxiety scale (BAI) were used. The parameters of active tDCS included administration of 2 mA for 20 minutes per day for 15 consecutive days, anode electrode over the right DLPFC (F4), and cathode electrode over the left DLPFC (F3) region. Results: After 10 sessions of anodal and cathodal tDCS, patients showed significant improvement in decision making tasks. The same results were observed for obsession symptoms. Conclusion: The data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0.0 software, using analysis of variance methods. This study demonstrated that anodal tDCS over left DLPFC, concurrent with cathodal tDCS over right DLPFC, improved cognitive impairment and reduced obsession symptoms in patients with OCD.},

abstract ={Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of psychological wellbeing with variables of mindfulness and emotion regulation strategies, and then to identify which one predicts better psychological well-being. Methods: We used a descriptive-analytical design for this study. A total of 243 students from 3 Tehran universities were selected using the convenience sampling method. Three measurement instruments were used in this study: mindful attention awareness scale (MAAS), cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire (CERQ), and psychological well-being scale (PWS). The statistical analysis included the Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis. Study variables were calculated with SPSS ver. 19. Results: The results indicated that mindfulness and psychological well-being are positively correlated to most of the more adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies and negatively correlated to most of the less adaptive ones. In the fifth model of regression analysis, positive reappraisal (Beta=0.27), catastrophizing (Beta=-0.24), refocus on planning (Beta=0.24), mindfulness (Beta=0.22), and acceptance (Beta=-0.10) were the best predictors of psychological well-being, consecutively, and together accounted for 46% of the variance. Conclusion: Higher mindfulness and using more adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies are associated with higher psychological well-being. Regression analysis also suggests that higher levels of positive reappraisal, refocusing on planning, mindfulness, lower levels of catastrophizing, and acceptance predict higher levels of psychological well-being.},

Methods: This was a descriptive-correlative and after the fact study. A total of 315 students were selected with multistage cluster sampling from students of Tehran universities. The participants completed the lifetime of experiences questionnaire (LEQ), Young’s schema questionnaire short form with 90-item (YSQ-SF-3), and the trauma symptom checklist-40 (TSC-40). Data were analyzed by path analysis using SPSS 16. Results: The results indicated that perception of childhood emotional maltreatment was associated with later psychological distress and mediated through schema of defectiveness/ shame, vulnerability to harm, self-sacrifice, and entitlement. Conclusion: In this study, our findings suggested that childhood emotional maltreatment is contributed to later psychological distress by developing cognitive vulnerability of children through maladaptive schemas. abstract ={Objective: Although emotions help us respond compatibly to the problems and opportunities we encounter in life, their deviation can lay the foundation for emotional disorders. Perfectionism is a person’s wish to meet ones as well as others’ expectations, albeit with better quality than what the situation allows. According to research literature it seems that dimensions of perfectionism can predict the severity of emotional disorders. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between perfectionism and symptoms of emotional disorders. Methods: This study was a descriptive, cross sectional, and correlation research. To achieve the research objectives, two questionnaires of inventory of depression and anxiety symptoms (IDAS), and perfectionism inventory were administered to a sample of 385 students studying at Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University. Results: The results demonstrated that there is a strong correlation between perfectionism and severity of the emotional disorder symptoms. Furthermore, the independent variables such as the component of perfectionism can optimally predict the emotional disorders severity (sig=0.001). Conclusion: Considering the role of perfectionism in the prediction, etiology, and treatment of emotional disorders, in order to enhance the mental health of the society, it is essential to take a practical approach towards such studies.},

title = {Adaptation to College and Interpersonal Forgiveness and the Happiness among the University Students},
abstract ={Objective: Happiness, as one of the most important aspects of students’ mental health has a significant influence on their social growth and personality development, and it has always been of interest to the researchers in different fields of psychology. Methods: In this study, the method of correlation was used and the population of study was all students of Farhangiyan University of Guilan during the academic year 2013-2014 which included 1777 students. Among this population, a sample of 250 students (including 149 women and 101 men) was selected and studied using stratified random sampling method. The student adaptation to college questionnaire (SACQ), interpersonal forgiveness scale (IFS) and Oxford happiness questionnaire (OHI) were used for data collection. The resulting data were analyzed by applying multivariate regression analysis method in SPSS vs. 19. Results: The results showed a significant and positive relationship between adaptation to college and interpersonal forgiveness with the happiness (at the level of P<0.01) and it was concluded that these variables, in combination with each other, were able to account for 58% of the variance of happiness. Among the independent variables, the component of social adjustment had the greatest role in the prediction of happiness among the students. Conclusion: Since the variables of adaptation to college and interpersonal forgiveness are suitable predictors for happiness, consideration of these variables in the students’ mental health promotion programs is highly recommended.},

title = {Psychometric Properties and Factor Structure of the Behavior Problems Inventory in Iranian Elementary Students with Intellectual Disability},
abstract ={Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties and the factor structure of the Behavior Problems Inventory (BPI-01) among students with intellectual disabilities in Iran. Methods: The Persian version of BPI-01 was administered to the care staff of Iranian children and adolescents (n=591) who had been detected as suffering from intellectual disabilities. Iranian children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities in the present study lived in one of the 4 provinces of Tehran, Esfahan, Karaj, and Kurdistan. Cronbach α and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used for analyzing the data. Results: The results of the study showed that the scale could reach an acceptable level of internal consistency (Cronbach α ranged from 0.83 to 0.94). Furthermore, CFA supported the unidimensionality of the subscales as well as 3 factor structure proposed in the original BPI-01. Conclusion: The Persian version of BPI-01 enjoys an acceptable level of reliability and is explained by the same factor structure proposed in the original BPI-01. The limitations and some applications of the present study will be discussed too.},

title = {Psychometric Properties of the Driving Behavior Survey among Iranian Drivers},
abstract ={Objective: There are not enough good instruments for assessing driving behavior in Iran. This study aimed to investigate factor structure, convergent and divergent validity, and reliability of driving behavior survey (DBS). Methods: The study method is descriptive and survey. Participants comprised 147 Sample selected by convenient method. Iranian drivers who completed DBS, Manchester driver behavior questionnaire, trait anxiety scale, and trait anger scale. Results: findings showed that 3 factors of DBS could explain 39% of total variance. Anxietybased performance deficits, exaggerated safety and caution behaviors, and hostility/aggressive behaviors were 3 factors of DBS. There were convergent correlations between DBS subscales and common driving mistakes and traffic rules violations. Cronbach’s alpha was estimated 0.77, 0.65 and 0.70 for subscales. Conclusion: Driving behavior survey has convincing psychometrical features. It could be used in general population and clinical settings for investigating anxious drivers.},

title = {Sexual Behavior and Age Differences in Methamphetamine Dependent and Non-Dependent Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM)},
abstract ={Objective: Methamphetamine consumers use can have more efficient practices, be hyperactive, and take sexual risk-taking behaviors. These behaviors are particularly remarkable in homosexuals. Methods: The present study was conducted based on casual-comparative method in the field of descriptive studies. Since 1 March to 25 June 2015, a total of 62 MSM subjects were selected based on chain method and divided into two groups of methamphetamine dependent (n=30) and non-dependent ones (n=32). sexual behaviors were examined by sexual behavior questionnaire based on 3 dimensions of sexual thoughts, sexual pleasure, and sexual hyperactivity. High-risk sexual behavior were evaluated by sexual behavior questionnaire, their relation with participants’ educational status, occupation, age, income, and number of sexual partners in the last 3 months were analyzed using the parametric T-test. Results: Data analysis showed that methamphetamine dependent MSM were significantly higher (P<0.01) in all 3 components of sexual thoughts and pleasure, hyperactivity, and sexual behavior compared to non-dependent group. However, regarding age, there was no significant difference between age and sexual risk behavior (P=0.05). Conclusion: methamphetamine dependent MSM have a unique experience of thoughts, pleasure, and aspirations and have high tendency to high-risk sexual behavior. These findings are consistent with the previous research on the importance of stimulant consumption and specifically methamphetamine in creating high-risk sexual behavior. Controlling methamphetamine use plays an important role in preventing the transmission of infectious diseases.},
